10.14.07 : : 2 Years Ago

Two years ago today I was at our church's hayride taking photographs of everyone having fun, enjoying fellowship together, and the crisp fall weather. It was two years ago on this day that something clicked (no pun intended) and I felt a desire unlike anything else I've had that I wanted to do this as more than just a hobby. Two years ago today began my journey into something that I never imagined would have grown into what it is today. And today, I went back again to photograph our church's hayride outing at the same farm.

The above black & white photograph of a shack in the woods is one that has stuck with me (taken at the hayride two years ago) and been a source of my inspiration. It was seeing a seemingly ordinary object differently, more beautifully, than I had before. It's continued ever since that day. I can no longer drive down a country road without wanting to stop at every field full of horses and if I see interesting clouds or a rainbow, I'm compelled to pull over and take pictures, no matter how inconvenient the timing. It's why I can't wander in an urban setting without getting hundreds of ideas for my next shoot or why my dog sighs everytime I dress him up in a tutu and point my lens in his direction.

Being back here today was an interesting feeling. Knowing this was the start into something I truly believe that God wanted me to follow with all of my heart. I am so unbelievably grateful to all of those who have believed that this was something I could do and have helped me along the way. It was interesting taking the same picture again, wondering if it would again inspire me as the first had. I wondered if I would still get excited seeing an old shack in the woods and want to photograph it immediately. I did and am so excited to see where this adventure will take me two more years down the road.

And because I know you all love pictures of adorable kids, I also had a session with Drew today at the studio. It was supposed to be a park session today but anyone who stepped outside this afternoon knows why it was moved inside ;).
