Elizabeth + Blair : : Married!

When I woke up this morning, I have to admit I was a little nervous with the crazy storms that were pouring over western Michigan, but as I headed to Coopersville to photograph Elizabeth and Blair's wedding, the clouds parted and the sun started shining through.

This wedding was totally fun and I can't wait to share the preview with you all later this week. This train...totally fabulous! I think Coopersville is one of my new favorite places to photograph in! There is nothing more romantic than train tracks.

Congratulations Elizabeth and Blair!

Becky + Matt : : Wedding Preview!

The Details : :

Saturday, May 24, 2008
Calvin College Chapel
Mangiamo's!

The Summary : :
When I shot Matt and Becky's engagement session last year, I knew their wedding was one that I was going to totally enjoy shooting. My intuition was not wrong! Becky, the totally organized and creative bride, had so many personal and fabulous little touches throughout their wedding that I was going crazy with the detail shots. My favorite...the old-fashioned typewriter used by the guests to type out their wishes for the happy couple.

The ceremony was touching, personal and warm. The reception was a mid-day luncheon followed by the family and guests having the opportunity to go outside afterwards to mingle on the lawn. The whole wedding was over by 4 p.m. that day and I almost couldn't bring myself to pack up my gear and head out for the day! Such a perfect and beautiful day by a gracious and loving couple. Cheers Matt and Becky!

Angie, my second-shooter, literally climbed up this tree to shake flower petals all over them like little snowflakes. She's fabulous!
Totally original. Totally loving it.

Barb Hoek of Sweet Cakes has done it again!
And total score for me (and Matt and Becky!), having Aletha from Pearl's Events keeping everything in check again this week.
The toasts were so heartfelt and loving. What wonderful people this couple has in their lives!

And the table arrangements and details were fabulous...all different, all elegant and amazing.

After dinner, the guests sauntered out onto Mangiamo's expansive lawn to enjoy some time outdoors. It was perfect with the chairs set up the sun brightly shining.
And I snuck the couple away for a few pictures by themselves.

Becky is a competitive skater and you can't have a whole team together on one's wedding day and not get some team pictures!
Random adorable kid.

Do these earrings rock or what?!

Here's to a long and happy life together. Enjoy your preview!

Amy + Grant : : Married! Again!

Ok, so Amy and Grant weren't technically married again today, but they did get all dressed up like they did and I got to recapture their fabulous day!

I know what you're thinking...why did I do that?

Well, Amy and Grant were married on April 19 last month at the beautiful downtown Peninsular Club. They had an amazing day and went on an amazing honeymoon afterwards. But when they got their wedding pictures back from their wedding photographer, they weren't as stoked as they could have been and gave me a phone call. I was totally excited because this is my favorite part of any wedding...photographing a couple in love and in their beautiful wedding attire. So we headed back to the Pen Club and surrounding downtown areas soaking up the lovely afternoon sunshine and documenting this special time in their lives.

Amy is absolutely stunning! Her hair and makeup were flawless!

Grant isn't so shabby either!

You know how I love making couples jump for joy. This picture totally cracks me up!
Amy had two of her friends with her...her 'maids for the day...making sure everything was 'just so'. They were fabulous!
Congratulations Amy and Grant! Again!

Lynn & Bryan : : Celebrating the Bump!

Lynn and Bryan will be welcoming a baby boy very soon...as early as next week in fact!...and I was honored to come and document this time for them at their lovely home on the river.

They are such a wonderful couple and are going to make amazing parents. So excited to welcome your little one!

This is one lovely mamma-to-be.

Seriously...how cute are they?!

Becky & Matt : : Married!

Becky and Matt were married this morning in a beautiful ceremony at the Calvin College Chapel which was followed by a luncheon reception at Mangiamo's. (You can read more details on Aletha's blog, who was there to make sure everything was perfect!) I'll share more details later this week but I will say that the amount of planning and amazing details that this couple put into their wedding made for one spectacular event!

This couple was so sweet and gracious and so completely in love. Look for the preview gallery later this week!
Congratulations Becky and Matt!!

Juli + Andy : : Wedding Preview!

When : : Saturday, May 17, 2008

Where : : Ceremony - Fallasburg Park, Lowell, MI

Reception - Hilton Hotel, Grand Rapids, MI

Juli and Andy had an amazing wedding...totally laid-back, totally in love and totally fun.

I loved that they had their ceremony at the indoor structure at the gorgeous Fallasburg Park. It was cozy and intimate with a casual, laid-back feel that totally suited this couple. Afterwards we took full advantage of the following trees at the park and the surrounding areas. And to keep the wedding running smoothly, they hired the amazing Aletha of Pearls Events. I know I've sung her praises before, but truly...if you want a smooth-running and worry-free wedding, call her immediately! She books up quickly.

Are these shoes fabulous or what?! I adore a colored wedding shoe.

Guess who made this amazing cake...the fabulous Barb Hoek of Sweet Cakes!
Their favors were the "I Do" brew and the guests LOVED this gift of a custom beer.

And the lovely Aletha poised for organizing action!

Congratulations Juli and Andy! I hope your honeymoon was fun, fabulous and relaxing. Thank you for letting me be part of your day!

Amy + Jordan : : Engaged!

Sometimes the stars align perfectly and everything just falls into place. That was exactly the case tonight with Amy and Jordan's engagement session. Amy and Jordan are getting married next July and both live in Buffalo, NY. They happened to be in town this week and it worked out perfectly to have their session this evening. Amazing spring weather, great lighting and an all-around fabulous session.

How lucky were we to happen upon this fabulous little yellow scooter? Total Score!! I love the collaboration of colors happening here against the grungy brick wall. My kinda shoot!

Being in love makes you want to jump for joy!
You know I couldn't resist this shot!
Amy really had a hard time getting that 'sassy' look mastered just so.
Obviously...I'm completely joking! She was rocking that sassy look!

I've been all about the tree shots lately. Love the drama!

Amy and Jordan...you know I'm looking forward to your wedding next year after such a fun session. I hope your drinks and desserts at La Dolce Vita were fabulous this evening!

Sabrina, Hannah, and Levi

I had the wonderful opportunity to work with this family (all of whom looked like they were ready for their Ralph Lauren photo shoot!) late this afternoon. They admitted it had been quite a while since they had a family picture and sometimes just the idea....a family picture....can bring on dread! and fear! and clothing choices! to mind. But I told everyone to have fun, relax and let me do the work. Let the kids be kids and the parents enjoy the time. And what a fun time we had! I loved playing around in the cool grass on a perfect spring day.

It does not get any more precious than this my friends.

It wasn't all work and no play though! These kids just received their trampoline yesterday and were excited to show it off. I even taught them a few tricks from when I had one of these (sans safety netting around the side) when I was a kid.

And this picture just made me laugh...the whole family is looking at a lovely scene in the woods, but little Sabrina breaks the gaze to see what I'm doing hiding down in the shrubs. Adorable!

Melissa and Kyle : : Engaged!

On Wednesday was my day to rock it out in Chicago with Kyle and Melissa...a fabulous duo who are getting married in Saugatuck this September.

Not only did I love working with them, they brought along their labradoodle Lucy to rock it out with them!

We started off in Grant Park and then headed into the city for a some urban goodness. Afterwards they even treated Jen and I to an amazing lunch at one of their favorite Thai places in the city. Can you two be any more fabulous?

Ahhh...city skylines...love it!
The windy city was living up to its name!

Kyle and Melissa...you two are fun, fierce and fabulous. I can't WAIT to see you both for your wedding this fall.

Hangin' With Jen in the Windy City

There are many things I love about my job, but one thing that I truly love is travel, and it's made even better when traveling with a friend.

The fabulous Jen of JK Photography and I hopped in my car early Tuesday morning and headed down to the windy city of Chicago for duel engagement sessions on Tuesday and Wednesday. Jen kicked off the trip with her session with lovely Kate and her fiance' Mitch. Jen set up a roof-top skyline session on top of a chic and trendy lighting shop called Lightology. It was amazing up there and I just couldn't resist getting a few pictures of Jen in action!

Friends...do you know what this is? This is a scandelous picture. Why, you might ask? This is an image of a die-hard Canon user using a *gasp* Nikon! Yes, Jen grabbed my long zoom lens for a few pictures. This is what I like to call blackmail.

Jen will be posting her pictures from this engagement session soon on her blog here.

Just a few pictures I took while sitting at the marina.

My Childhood Love

Growing up, my absolute most favorite thing in the entire world was horses. I was obsessed. My best friend and neighbor, Tina, and I would spend hours flipping through books about horses and picking out our favorites. We were going to grow up and run a horse farm someday.

Eventually boys, makeup and New Kids On The Block replaced my horse obsession, but I always loved them and was even lucky enough to board one for a while when I was a young girl.

I got a phone call a few months ago asking if I would be interested in shooting a school team's equestrian team photos (funny enough at the high school I graduated from) and I happily agreed! Doing school pictures isn't something I would normally have signed up for, but with horses involved I couldn't say no. And of course I can't do a session without shooting a few candids. Enjoy!

A Sweet Birthday

So yesterday was my birthday. I turned 29 for the first time. I say first time, because I expect I'll want to stay this age for a few years to stave off being 30. But I'll worry about that next year and that's really not what this post is about.

This post is really because I had to share these amazing favors that my talented mom made for the birthday celebration that my husband threw for me yesterday evening. I love birthdays for the fact that you get to gather with those that love you the most! Any my dear husband planned a special surprise at Mangiamo's yesterday for me complete with a special Sweet Cakes birthday cake from Barb Hoek. He's amazing. I love you babe! But I digress...back to the favors...

My mom is the fabulous creator of Le Petite Gateau (website and blog coming soon!) and makes these and other tiny favors for weddings, showers, etc. These are her Petite Flower Pots that sit on marzipan coasters (all with special birthday greetings on them), and I swear I'm not saying this because I'm biased (really I swear!) but they are Amazing! I thought they were lovely just to look at, but when I bit into the chocolate and marzipan confection I was greeted with a cherry almond cream filling...heaven!! If anyone is looking for a unique favor I can't recommend them enough. Mom....you are fabulous.

Welcome to the World Little Brody!

Erin, my friend and the girl behind all of the hair magic at my boudoir sessions, welcomed her new son Brody into the world on Saturday. Of course I had to go see the little guy and take a few pictures of his cuteness!

Congratulations Erin and Ron! He's perfect.

Juli + Andy : : Married!

Congratulations to Juli and Andy who were married at the beautiful Fallasburg Park in Lowell today. Look for a preview gallery later this week!

Amy & Carlo : : Engaged!

Amy and Carlo met while they were at their law school orientation at Notre Dame. Carlo hails from Los Angeles and Amy is born and raised here in the Mid West. Carlo hasn't spent a great amount of time in the downtown GR area so I took them around the area finding cool parks and my favorite back allyways.

These two were so romantic together, so natural behind the camera. No emotion was forced and we had such a great, relaxed session. I am so excited to work with them next March for their wedding!

I adore Amy's ring setting! Nice job Carlo!

Little Landen

This is Landen, all kinds of adorable and turning two in just a few weeks.

When I'm doing children's portraits, often times I'll let them do their thing, capturing their facial expressions as they happen and trying not to coax it out of them. But there are a few times during the session that I'll ask for a smile, for a laugh, for a happy look. Landen's smile is an adorable squinchy-eyed smile and it totally made me laugh.

Thanks for coming in tonight Landen! Have a fabulous 2nd birthday!

Dana + Jeremy : : Preview Gallery

When : : Saturday, May 10, 2008

Where : : Ceremony - St. Cecelia Music Center (Royce Auditorium)
Reception - Top of The B.O.B.

I loved that Dana and Jeremy were married in the beautiful Royce Auditorium, downtown, in St. Cecelia's Music Center. Gorgeous and oh-so dramatic!

Dana and Jeremy also planned well for their pictures, setting up all of the formals and group pictures before the ceremony so that just Angie and I could take them downtown afterwards for some time with just the two of them.

Sister Love!

The first reactions of the couple seeing each other is one of my favorite parts of the day...whether that be in a first meeting or during the walk down the aisle.

I also got to meet and work with the lovely Michelle of Memorable Events. Brides-to-be, if you have it in your budget...hire a day of coordinator! They make your wedding day flow so well. We have some great ones in our area and I was so impressed with Michelle and her assistant all day long.

Practicing their first dance in the streets...fabulous!

Dana and Jeremy...I wish you two nothing but love and happiness in your journey together as husband and wife. Congratulations and thanks for letting me capture your day!!

My Love of Birds

I took this picture last week when I was doing the blog change-over and never had a chance to post this picture. These are a pair of Sandhill Cranes and I think they are completely beautiful.

I was driving out one late morning bringing out a brunch to enjoy with my mom, when I saw these tall birds on the horizon of a large, open field. I immediately pulled over, threw on my longest lens and my 2x teleconverter and ran out as far as I could justify before completely ruining my heels. I have a great love for nature, and especially birds, so I was totally in my element. Well...I would have been better suited to be in my element with better footware for the task.

The Marathon Boudoir Session : : A Fabulous Success (Warning...Sexy Photos Ahead!)

And yes, I have permission to post these. Not by all, but by a select few (thanks girls!)

Using the fabulous estate of my friend Michelle's parents, we utilized not just the amazing interior but also took advantage of the privacy of the beautifully landscaped grounds.

And my fabulous hair and make-up team of Julie and Erin were right on staff glamming these girls up. I'll post more pictures of that tomorrow (it's getting late and this photographer needs her beauty sleep!) For now, enjoy the preview of some of tonight's session.

Michelle, you look AMAZING!

Now those are some heels! (I had to walk around in them. Had to.)

Despite the case of nerves Bree had...she rocked her session and looked fabulous!

These marathon sessions are too fun not to have again. Look for another later this year!

Derek and Andrea : : Celebrating the Bump

I have to say, despite that it was early on a chilly Monday morning...I loved everything about this session. The fabulous parents-to-be, Derek and Andrea, totally wanted a fun, urban, and different maternity session. That, I could oblige.

Derek called me a few months ago wanting to set up this session for he, his wife, and their dog Gibson. What an amazing husband! So up they came from Chicago and we totally rocked it out this morning.

Andrea mentioned at the beginning of the session that she was shy. But she looks completely FIERCE here! You are one hot momma!

And here is Gibson, the sweetest dog. He was great!

You two just let me know if you want me to come out to the Chicago area once that little one arrives. I adored working with you both!

Dana & Jeremy : : Married!

Beautiful wedding, fabulous couple and one Amazing Day! Look for the preview gallery later this week!

Saturday, May 10, 2008

Heather + Tom : : Preview Gallery!

When : :
Saturday, May 3, 2008

Where : : Ceremony - Holland Heights Christian Reformed Church

Reception - Spring Lake Country Club

Total troupers these two (and their fabulous wedding party!). Despite the cold and dreary conditions, we went outside, got some amazing pictures in downtown Holland, and totally rocked it out. Tom and Heather also had one amazing reception with so many of their guests out on the dance floor dancing. That always makes for a great night!

Brides and Grooms to be...if you haven't booked your DJ yet, I can't recommend these guys enough. This is Ryan Shine from Top 5 Entertainment. Not only were they completely professional, but SUCH a fun and energetic team of guys! They were out leading dances and getting the guests completely into the fun. I was very impressed and completely enjoyed working with them.

One of Heather's bridesmaids grabbed the mic later in the night to call Heather up to sing 'Love Shack' together. She claimed it wasn't a true party until they belted out this tune together. Love it!

What an amazing day! Congratulations and thank you SO MUCH for letting me be part of your day!

Katie & Dan

This evening Katie and Dan and I got together for their amazing engagement session. Starting out at Tulip Time in downtown Holland, we had the most perfect evening. Warm temperatures, beautiful flowers and the smells of caramel corn and elephant ears (a personal favorite!) permeating the air.

After we had spent our fill in Holland, we headed up to Grand Haven. Katie and Dan met in Grand Haven working as servers at Portabellos. Because the town had such meaning to them, they called up to this establishment to have their "Save the Date" information put on the marquee. Fabulous!

Check out the lobster shorts! Guess where Dan is from originally?
And that ring? The proposal was set in New York City at Rockafeller Center. Yep...Dan is definitely a keeper!

Katie and Dan...I am SO excited to shoot your wedding next summer. You two are simply fun and fabulous!

Jenna and Karly

Jenna and Karly are the adorable grandchildren of my friend Kelle. I've been taking pictures of these two since they were about one year old!

They are cousins and only a few weeks apart in age.

I also had a job shadow today helping out! This is Erick and he was shadowing me this morning for a paper he's doing for school. He did a fabulous job.

Fun Flashback: This was Jenna and Karly's first trip to the beach two years ago when I first began photographing them. This is one of my favorite pictures of these two!

Jack and Lily

Jack and Lily came into the studio today and I was completely captivated by these bright eyes and big smiles.

Two Ethans and a Remington

Remington and her little brother Ethan came studio today and I couldn't have been more excited. I get the pleasure of seeing these two often and even though Ethan wasn't as excited to be behind the camera, Remington was. I happily obliged!

And my other little guy Ethan and his mom Gina that came to visit. How adorable!

Cinco De Mayo

The fabulous Kerri of Taylor Grey Photography graciously hosted a Cinco De Mayo get-together of some local photographers and area wedding vendors at her house this evening. Not only did I get to meet some new fab photogs, but my favorite cupcake baker, Becca, of Lil Miss Cupcake brought over...get this...Margarita cupcakes! Amazing! And even more amazing was the fact that they were vegan. Now I know what you're all thinking...vegan cannot be tasty. But I am happy to report that not only were they delicious, I actually think I prefer them to their egg-filled cousins.

And really, no Cinco De Mayo party is complete without real margaritas. Fabulous!
Kerri, thanks again for hosting. Great to meet/see everyone this evening!

Heather + Tom : : Hitched!

Heather and Tom were married today in the lovely (and bit rainy) city of Holland. I loved their spirit (they are walking above in the rain), loved their family and all of their dear friends. I am SO excited to share their preview gallery later this week, complete with a stop for elephant ears at the street vendors set up downtown to celebrate Tulip Time!

Heather and Tom, a BIG congratulations!!

Girlfriends

I am so thankful for the amazing friends that I have. I truly realized this tonight as my three girlfriends and I were talking about our upcoming (and one recent) birthday. All three of us met while we were in high school and I am happy to say, are still part of each other's lives.

Although we don't see each other as frequently as we once did, we laugh and reminisce about our crazy teenage years and the funny (well funny now) mistakes we once made.

A few weeks ago when Lindsay came by the studio, she mentioned that we should all get some pictures together the next time we have a girl's night (since I believe the last time we've all been in a picture together has been nearly a decade). So bring a camera I did, but forgetting the tripod to set a self-timer put a bit of a bug in our plan.

But at least I got to make them jump and be silly!

Kari, Lindsay, and Robin...I love you girls!

Sandra + Casey : : Preview Gallery!

When : : Saturday, April 26, 2008

Where : : Ceremony - Beechwood Reformed Church, Reception - The Trestle Stop

Sandra and Casey first began their courtship over a small bottle of bubbles at a friend's wedding years before. Sandra couldn't get her bottle open so handed it over to Casey to open for her. Being the polite gentleman he was, he opened it and handed it back to her. A spark ignited and together they stayed. Of course these two had to have bubbles at their own wedding and I loved the little note they tied to each bottle of bubbles handed out to their guests.

I love watching the transformation as the bride gets ready. The applying of make-up, the addition of the veil...

I adored Sandra's flowers...all of the bright pinks, greens and whites...gorgeous! And pinks and greens are one of my very favorite color combinations so of course I was going crazy over the flowers!

Beechwood Church actually holds a very special and dear place in my heart. It's the church my grandparents attended and one that I would visit with them when I stayed with them as a little girl. It was bittersweet in some ways as they both have since passed. But what a beautiful church and what wonderful memories to be making here on such an amazing day.

Congratulations Sandra and Casey! I hope your honeymoon was absolutely fabulous!

Sweet Faces and a Birthday Dog

This evening I had two familiar and adorable faces come in to see me this evening. This is little Katie.

And this is little Cameron

And also a big Happy Birthday to Tanner! That means a trip to the pet store to pick out a birthday toy and treat.
